String of attacks in Iraq kills 5 (AP)

BAGHDAD ? Iraqi officials say a series of attacks mainly targeting security forces have killed at least 5 people.

The officials say a roadside bomb killed three policemen Wednesday in the predominantly Sunni suburb of Abu Ghraib, west of the capital.

They also say gunmen killed a police captain at his house in Fallujah, 40 miles (65 kilometers) west of Baghdad, and a bomb killed an Iraqi contractor in Kirkuk, 180 miles (290 kilometers) north of the capital.

The officials spoke on condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to talk to the media.

Some Iraqis have warned of an uptick in attacks as the U.S. military prepares to withdraw from the country by the end of the year.
